ELKINS -- The Randolph County Commission approved a memorandum of understanding with the Randolph County Humane Society during its regular meeting this week at the James F. Cain Courthouse Annex.
Jenna Lee, who assumed the role of Board President of the Randolph County Humane Society on Jan. 1, told Commissioners Cris Siler, David Kesling and Chris See that she appreciated them meeting with her earlier this year and considering the memorandum.
"This is something we do each year where we agree to budget and provide financial support to the Randolph County Humane Society," Kesling said. "We do that yearly, and we have this memorandum of understanding about how many dogs or animals they (RCHS) are allowed to take in per week, based on their capacity at the time."
The County Commission voted unanimously to provide $80,000 to the Humane Society in the next fiscal year.
Lee thanked the Commission and Randolph County Dog Warden Ron Gooden.
"Ron has been amazing to work with. Things have been tight at shelters and rescues across the country, and our abilities to move animals to transport shelters has not been as easy as it once was," Lee said. "Ron takes the time to post the dogs he finds on Facebook and he always takes a few minutes to locate the owners. By doing that it has decreased our intake by at least a few animals a week.
"Having someone who is willing to take those extra couple minutes to find the owners, before the bigger part of the process begins, has been phenomenal. He's fantastic to work with and we are thankful to have him."
Kesling told Lee he was pleased with how well she and Gooden worked together.
"Ron (Gooden) has had good things to say about you and your organization," Kesling told Lee. "The partnership that you two have, and how successful it is, has a lot to do with this memorandum today. We appreciated everything you two do for the county."
