ELKINS - Elkins City Council will meet on a special day next week in order to "lay the levy."
Council will meet in special session Tuesday at 7 p.m. All West Virginia cities and counties must meet on the third Tuesday in April to take this final step in the process of establishing the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
The city's Fiscal Year 2025 budget, which council initially adopted in March, has now been approved by the state auditor.
At Tuesday's meeting, council will take the final steps to finalize this budget, including setting the in-city FY 2025 property tax rate, which will remain the same as in recent years.
The proposed $6,266,793 budget is a $594,765 increase from the 2024 Fiscal Year budget for the city. There will be a projected carryover amount of $648,261 from the current fiscal year.
Elkins City Council unanimously approved the $6.2 million budget for the 2025 Fiscal Year in March.
Other items on the agenda for Tuesday's special city council meeting include a presentation by Josh Nease from Mon Forest Towns; Ordinance 327: TIF Advisory Committee (final reading); Resolution 1742: Consideration of Supplemental Resolution related to Sewer Revenue Bonds, Series 2024; Resolution 1747: Adopting the Region VII PDC Hazard Mitigation Plan Update; Resolution 1748: Adopting FY 2025 Landfill budget; Resolution 1749: Adopting FY 2025 Sanitation budget; Resolution 1750: FY 2024 General Fund budget revisions 8 & 9; Resolution 1751: Lease for Fraternal Order of Police lodge; and an attorney consultation concerning the Whitmer water system.
City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Elkins City Hall.
