BEVERLY - A local woman is behind bars and facing a pair of felony charges.
Nikita Elaine Lanham, 39, was charged with grand larceny and fraudulent use of an access device. She is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $30,000 bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Michael Dyer.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Senior Trooper A.P. Petrella of the Elkins Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, on April 6, the alleged victim called police and said Lanham "stole her truck, her credit cards, (a) debit card, and check book from her purse."
The alleged victim told police that Lanham "acknowledged that she had taken the truck and advised she left the truck at a friend's house," the complaint states. The alleged victim said she immediately went to the friend's house and the truck was not there.
On the same day, at approximately 10 a.m., Sgt. D.W. Burge located a stolen vehicle near the Dollar General store in Beverly, according to the complaint. Burge located Lanham and placed her under arrest.
Burge "executed a search of the vehicle ... and located the stolen credit cards, debit card and check book."
Officers found fast food and drinks inside the vehicle, the complaint states. The owner of the debit card told police someone had used the card without permission at McDonald's that morning. Petrella obtained a receipt for the food from McDonald's.
