UPSHUR COUNTY -- Two people are facing multiple felony counts after officers executed a search warrant Tuesday.
John Felix Cathell III has been charged with one felony count of wanton endangerment, nine felony counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, five felony counts of manufacture of a controlled substance, and 14 felony counts of conspiracy against the state.
Jennifer Rae Cathell has been charged with five felony counts of manufacture of a controlled substance, and 14 felony counts of conspiracy against the state.
Both were arraigned in Upshur County Magistrate Court and transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail awaiting bond.
According to an Upshur County Sheriff's Office press release Wednesday, deputies executed the warrant on Route 20 South Road "in relation to a wanton endangerment involving a firearm crime that had occurred days prior."
While executing the search warrant, deputies found nine firearms in the residence, including four rifles, three shotguns and two pistols, with several of the guns being loaded. Multiple boxes of ammo were also found, the release states.
Deputies also found "multiple seedling plants in individual pots on the kitchen counter, which was just a few feet away from where some of the firearms were being stored," according to the release. Approximately five seedling plants were identified and confirmed as marijuana, the release states. Officers also found medical marijuana containers, marijuana smoking devices and "ground up marijuana."
Both John and Jennifer Cathell reportedly told officers they smoke marijuana and do not possess a valid medical marijuana prescription card. Officers determined John Cathell has been convicted of multiple felonies in Delaware, including both gun and drug charges.
