PHILIPPI -- Barbour County voters elected a new county commissioner in Tuesday's primary election.
In the race for one Barbour County Commission South District seat, Bob Richardson totaled 845 votes, incumbent Jamie Carpenter received 770 votes, Matthew "Matt" Ryan received 759 votes, while James "Shortbus" Poling garnered 178 votes.
Incumbent Sheriff Brett Matthew Carpenter, a Republican from Philippi, received 1,839 votes. Republican challenger Frankie Keener, from Philippi, garnered 607 votes.
Incumbent Andrew "Drew" Phillips, a Republican, received 2,102 votes in the Barbour County prosecuting attorney race.
Incumbent Assessor Derick A. Spencer, a Republican from Philippi, received 1,369 votes, while Republican challenger Carrie Sponaugle Boyles, from Philippi, totaled 1,173 votes.
In the non-partisan Barbour County Board of Education race, for the West District BOE seat, Martin G. Durst of Philippi received 1,541 votes.
For the North District seat, Adam Starks of Philippi totaled 1,780 votes.
For the BOE's South District seat, Maureen Lasky-Setchell, of Belington, totaled 1,187 votes.
In the 23rd Circuit Judge Division 1 race, Shawn D. Nines received 2,447 votes.
In the Circuit Judge Division 2 race, incumbent Thomas B. Hoxie garnered 2,606 votes, while Allison Clark Iapalucci totaled 865.
In the House of Delegates District 68 race, incumbent Republican Chris Phillips, of Buckhannon, garnered 1,569 votes, while Republican challenger David Critchfield, of Philippi, totaled 931 votes.
In the 11th District State Senate race, Republican Robbie Morris outpaced incumbent Republican Robert Lee Karnes for the GOP nomination, 1,641 votes to 740. Democrat Mandy Smith Weirich garnered 650 votes.
Incumbent District 1 Magistrate Angie Stalnaker received 2,770 votes, and incumbent District 2 Magistrate Daniel J. "DJ" Harris totaled 2,893 votes.
In the race for Conservation District Supervisor seat, Thomas G. Short, of Philippi, garnered 2,266 votes, while Delbert J. Vandevander, of Volga received 864 votes.
