ELKINS – The 2024 Live & Drive Concert Series at Elkins Town Square will kick off its 2024 season on Thursday with a live musical performance and the first Cruise-In of the year from the Mountain State Street Machines.
This week's concert will be the first of 11 shows that are scheduled, and will mark the return of Ryan Cain & the Ables to the Rotary Amphitheater stage. The cruise-in is slated to get underway at 5 p.m., and the concert will start at 6 p.m.
There will be a 50/50 drawing during the cruise-in, which will feature an array of different automobiles that will line up along Railroad Avenue. Our Town Inc. and the Mountain State Street Machines are the hosts for this year's Concert Series and this week's sponsor is Mountain Valley Bank.
"You know it's summer time when Railroad Avenue is lined with great vintage cars and the sound of live music is in the air at the Rotary Amphitheater," Our Town Volunteer Vickie Keller told The Inter-Mountain.
Cain is a West Virginia native who has traveled the United States for more than 20 years performing early rock and roll hits and original material.
"Ryan Cain and the Abels is a show you won't want to miss," Our Town president Tammy Dolly said. "They are returning to Elkins by popular demand and we are really excited to kick off the summer concert season with this excellent performer."
Cain's honky-tonk, rockabilly and country sound have gained him and the Ables a large fan base across the East Coast. The talented singer, whose live performances are renowned, also frequently dives into early soul music and doo-wop while on stage.
"Rockabilly and honky tonk music from the hills is just a terrific way to start the season," Mountain State Street Machines member Bobby Hart said. "This is our kind of show and we can't wait to see the community come out to enjoy the cars and the music."
The remainder of this year's concert series includes: Blue Steel (May 23), Topshelf (June 13), Matt Mullins and the Bringdowns (June 27), 249th Army Band (July 4), Motorcycle Drive-By (July 5), Rick K Road Show (July 6), Soda Pop Gypsies (July 11), The Family Foundation (July 25), Larry & Joe (Aug. 8), and Cold Chocolate (Aug. 22).
