D&E seniors to be the spotlight of arts showcase

ELKINS -- Davis & Elkins College seniors will be in the spotlight Friday during the annual Creative Arts Showcase.
The show, presented free of charge and open to the public by the D&E Creative Arts Division at the Myles Center at 6 p.m., will feature the Senior Art Show.
The event will highlight student works in art, film, theatre, dance and music. Featured senior art majors Natasha Mackey, Ani Reger and Madison Craven will present paintings, prints, drawings and ceramic work.
The showcase will also include pop-up performances by Music Instructor Donna Baroudi Huffman's vocal performance students Marissa Mallow, Kyia McGill, Nicole Schumacher and Becca Thacker.
Instructor of Creative Arts Korey Burns and Dr. Aubrey Helene Neumann, assistant professor of theatre, will present performances by Digital Media and Stage Makeup Classes, respectively.
"These students have worked very hard to complete their senior thesis exhibition and we are honored to show their efforts to the college campus and townspeople," said Division Chair and Assistant Professor of Art Kevin "Woody" Woodcock. "We are very proud of what they have done and wish them much success in future endeavors."
Neumann's Theatre Collaboration Lab Class will offer an additional performance art piece consisting of theatre, dance and film.
"Over the course of the semester, students have embraced a playful openness through the creation of original performances," Neumann said. " From solo performances to soundscapes, site-specific works to performance installations, the students have grown as artists and communicators.
"For the showcase, students will be sharing their most collaborative piece of work, which combines spoken word, movement and music to explore both the challenges and rewards of human connection."
Directed by Adjunct Dance Instructor Cindy Marie Martin, the Dance for Musical Theatre Class will present a music review featuring dance styles of ballet/modern, Irish social dance and a tap dance that includes student-choreographed solos. In addition, the group will offer a jazz review showcasing dance styles of renowned choreographers Bob Fosse, Michael Bennet, Jerome Robbins and Andy Blankenbuehler.
The event will close with the annual student film showcase, featuring short films, music videos and audio soundscapes created by students in Assistant Professor of Theatre & Film Lonnie Martin's Filmmaking Class.
The evening will culminate with recognitions and the announcement of the Davis & Elkins Theatre & Film Program's 2024-2025 season.
