DMC planning Senior Health Day event

ELKINS -- Davis Medical Center will host a free event to observe National Senior Health Day on May 29. The special event will promote senior wellness and provide resources to support the health and well-being of older adults in the community.

"Davis Medical Center is committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive healthcare services to individuals of all ages," Event Organizer Chad Ware said. "If you are part of our senior population, I encourage you to come out, and meet our team, this is an event you don't want to miss."

The free event will be 11 a.m. To 1 p.m. Wednesday at the DMC Marketplace. The event will feature staff from DMC including members of the Population Health team, Physical Therapy and the NICHE Program (Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders).

The Population Health team will touch on two senior-focused programs coordinated by the family practice and population health departments, the Chronic Care Management (CCM) Program, and the Annual Wellness Visits. Physical Therapy Director, Julie Fleming, PT, will discuss "Move More, Sit Less," a strategy to achieve health benefits through physical activity.

Kim Haher, RN, Admission Nurse and NICHE Coordinator for DMC, will overview DMC's new Exemplar Status as a NICHE hospital and how that positively impacts healthcare for local seniors. Haher will also share information on the "Older Americans Month" observance which covers the following themes: connection, engagement and overall well-being for the senior population.

DMC Medical Director, Catherine Chua, DO, MS, FAAFP, FNMN, CPE, FAAPL will hold a Q&A from noon to 1 p.m.
