Happy Day Cafe offering food and ‘good vibes’ in Beverly goo

BEVERLY -- Sometimes it's hard to find that special gathering place that has not only great food, but an awesome vibe as well.
Local native Carrie Lynn feels she's created such a place after transforming the former Bobbies restaurant in Beverly into her own vision of something she thinks everyone will enjoy, the Happy Day Cafe.
The new restaurant, which is located at 270 Main Street in Beverly, opened a month ago and is at the same location as Bobbie's, which was owned and operated by Bobbie Smith for 40 years.
"You can never fill the shoes of Miss Bobbie, she had such a clientele base and she was of such service to the community," Lynn told The Inter-Mountain this week. "I would not even know where to begin to replicate her business and I couldn't. So I knew I had to do my own thing, because there is just no replacing her."
Lynn said the idea for her business came about when she was attending school at Full Sail University in Florida two years ago.
"There was a coffee shop in Orlando that I went to when I was in school and it had books, great food, and the vibe was just full of artists," Lynn said. "I thought, where am I going to get that back home? So I decided to create that space and atmosphere here."
Not only can customers enjoy their meal at a new long bar that stretches almost the length of the business, but there are also tables, a couch, and other seats scattered in an area that features a piano, a vintage fireplace, and a large collection of books.
"I wanted to offer a place in the restaurant where if you wanted to come in, sit down and not feel rushed to leave, you could," she said. "If you want to spend an hour sitting on our sofa drinking a cup of coffee and reading a book, I want you to feel like you can do that."
The former restaurant at Happy Day Cafe was a popular place for area residents to get their hot dog fix, and Lynn thinks her dogs could become a favorite in the area. One of the differences with Happy Day Cafe's hot dogs is that they are grilled instead of boiled or steamed. All of the traditional toppings are available, including the restaurant's homemade chili.
There are many more food items to choose from at the restaurant other than its hot dogs, however. The burgers at Happy Day are gigantic and made to order, while the hoagies are already creating a buzz in the area. Hoagies currently offered include pizza, philly, ham, chicken bacon ranch, chicken parm, turkey and Italian.
Pepperoni rolls, pizza, calzones, baked potatoes and chicken sandwiches (grilled or breaded) are also on the food menu. The coffee shop at Happy Day Cafe offers a variety of different coffees, including lattes and cappuccino.
A variety of homemade desserts and hand-dipped ice cream and milkshakes are available to the restaurant.
"We have a pastry chef and they come in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to make pastries," Lynn said. "We have everything from chocolate cheesecake to monkey breads."
Happy Day Cafe is open Mondays through Fridays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
"We want to be the little hole in the wall that has something that people want to come to and locals want to show up at," Lynn said. "I wanted to create a space that people could enjoy with good food, good people, and a good atmosphere."
