MILL CREEK -- A Huttonsville man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit that reached 100 miles per hour.
Derrick Allen Arbogast, 36, was charged with fleeing with reckless indifference. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Ben Shepler.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Sgt. G.S. DeWeese of the Elkins detachment of the West Virginia State Police, on Sunday at approximately 11 a.m., DeWeese was conducting a stationary road patrol in Mill Creek when he saw a silver Chevrolet pickup truck traveling south on US 219 with an expired registration.
DeWeese attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the truck driver, Arbogast, turned onto Conrad Street and started to accelerate and did not yield to the officer's lights and siren, the complaint states. Arbogast allegedly went through a stop sign and then back onto US 219 "without yielding to oncoming traffic."
Arbogast "crossed the double yellow line while passing cars going southbound," according to the complaint. He continued onto Union Street and then Hutton Street, and then entered US 250, where he reached speeds "of 100 mph in a posted 55 mph zone."
Arbogast exited onto Riffle's Creek Road where DeWeese "terminated the pursuit ... due to the reckless manner the driver was operating the vehicle on the narrow roadway," the complaint states.
DeWeese conducted a records check and found that the vehicle was registered to Casago Snow LLC, according to the complaint. He was also notified that a member of Snowshoe Security was familiar with the vehicle, and said it had recently been sold from Casago Snow to Arbogast.
A Casago Snow employee told DeWeese the company sold Arbogast the truck on Feb. 6. DeWeese obtained a copy of the Division of Motor Vehicles bill of sale for the vehicle, the complaint states.
