CHARLESTON -- Projects in Randolph, Upshur, Barbour and Pocahontas counties are among those set to receive a total of $26.2 million in West Virginia School Building Authority funding.
Gov. Jim Justice announced that 26 projects from around the state will receive major improvement awards, totaling $26,212,730.
"An investment in our schools is an investment in our children," Justice said. "I'm incredibly proud of today's announcement, and I thank the SBA for their commitment to providing the resources for our kids to succeed."
In Randolph County, a total of $832,189 will be used for the Randolph Technical Center's security entrance in Elkins.
A total of $695,113 will come to Upshur County, to be used for parking lot expansion at the Fred W Eberle Technical Center in Buckhannon.
In Barbour County, a total of $599,530 will be used for electrical upgrades at the Belington and Philippi elementary schools.
A total of $248,686 will be used for renovation upgrades at Pocahontas County High School in Marlinton.
"We've made huge strides in improving our infrastructure, but we aren't going to stop here," Justice said. "Our work isn't done. We will keep doing more to provide the best education possible for our kids because they deserve it. Let's keep it going."
Among other regional awards, Grant County will receive $849,360 to be used for two classroom additions at Maysville Elementary School.
A total of $252,307 will be used for sanitary improvements at Webster County High School in Upperglade.
Since Justice assumed office in 2017, the School Building Authority has allocated over $643 million to county school boards in West Virginia, according to a press release from Justice's office. When combined with the $363 million from local contributions, the overall investment in the state's educational facilities surpasses $1 billion.
