BUCKHANON -- A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man while he was eating a cheeseburger.
Gabriel Santiago Siachica-Mesa, 26, was charged with attempted murder and malicious assault. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Cpl. P.J. Robinette of the West Virginia State Police, officers responded to a Little Sand Run Road residence in Buckhannon on Monday just before midnight. It was discovered the alleged victim had been "stabbed once in the chest and twice in the back," allegedly by Siachica-Mesa, who had left the scene before the officer's arrival.
The alleged victim was transported by Upshur County EMS to St. Joseph's Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
A witness to the incident told the officer that Siachica-Mesa stabbed the alleged victim "unprovoked" while he was "sitting on a step outside eating a cheeseburger."
The witness said Siachica-Mesa told him to "watch out" in Spanish before leaving the scene.
On Tuesday at about 8:15 a.m., Deputy Riley of the Upshur County Sheriff's Department located Siachica-Mesa at the McDonalds in Buckhannon. He was then placed into custody and transported to the Buckhannon detachment of the WVSP.
Siachica-Mesa allegedly told police he stabbed the alleged victim with a kitchen knife after the two got into a verbal argument. Siachica-Mesa said he and the alleged victim had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana prior to the incident. He told police he then ran to the "mountains" because "he was unfamiliar with the area and needed to rest."
