ELKINS -- The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, Elkins Main Street, and the Randolph County Development Authority will host the third of six community conversations Wednesday at Orchard Hall.
The gathering is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and is part of the new "Elkins-Randolph Together: A Community Conversation" program. The inaugural session was held in January and focused on housing in Randolph County. The second conversation, in March, centered on entrepreneurship.
"We had really good turnouts at the first two events that we hosted as part of the community conversation," Elkins-Randolph County Chamber Director Lisa Wood told The Inter-Mountain. "We probably had around 35 people at each of those and we are hoping for the same kind of response, if not more, at this week's event."
The meeting will focus on transportation in Randolph County. The moderator for the conversation is Elkins City Council member Dave Parker. The conversation is sponsored by Valentine Assisted Living.
"We are going to talk about transportation and what we can do to make it better for everyone in Randolph County," Wood said. "We encourage everyone in the community to come out and share their ideas about this week's topic. The way transportation affects our seniors and those needing it to get to their places of employment in the county will be among some of the topics we will be discussing."
This week's guest panelists include Laura Ward, executive director of the Randolph County Senior Center/Country Roads Transit; William Robinson of the West Virginia Department of Transportation/ Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities Public Transit; and Neal Vance, West Virginia Department of Transportation/ Rural Areas Program manager and Division of Multimodal Transportation Facilities Public Transit.
The next Community Conversation will be July 10 at Davis & Elkins College. The focus will be on education. The sessions are scheduled for the second Wednesday of every other month. The final three events will be in July, September and November.
There is no fee or registration to attend the session. Coffee and donuts will be provided.
