COALTON — The 30th annual Coalton Days celebration will return June 20 to June 22 with an annual 5K walk, competitions and parades, plus a debut performance by the band Full Flavor, and music from Clarksburg’s Ask Alice.

The Coalton Days 2024 Celebration, “Proud to be American – Red, White, and Blue,” will feature the annual Vince Ross 5K Walk, Wood Chopping competition, Car Show and Cornhole Tournament, as well as the Firemen’s, Car Show and Feature Parades.

“This is our 30th year,” businessman and Coalton native Mike Ross told The Inter-Mountain Friday. “We expect a large crowd.”

Festivities will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, with the Sunday Best & Teen Miss Coalton Pageant at Coalton School.

On Friday at 6 p.m., the Hoedown in Coal Town will be offered at Coalton Park, which will feature bluegrass music from Full Flavor, a newly-formed West Virginia band who, according to the Coalton Days’ Facebook page, is “made up of multiple award-winning artists.” The Hoedown is a free event.

On Saturday, food concessions, vendors and the rock climbing wall will open around 10 a.m., with carnival rides opening at 11 a.m.

“The carnival is a great time,” Ross said. “The kids never forget it, and it’s free.”

The Vince Ross 5K Walk begins at 8 a.m. in Coalton Park Saturday. Registration for the 5K opens at 7:30 a.m. The Wood Chopping competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the basketball court, with registration for the competition opening at 8 a.m.

The annual Car Show will begin at 10 a.m., with show registration opening at 9 a.m., and the Cornhole Tournament starting at 11 a.m. Registration for the tournament opens at 10:30 a.m. with a limit of 10 teams allowed to register.

Ask Alice, a rock band from Clarksburg, will be performing in Coalton Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The band, according to their Facebook page, plays a variety of hits from rock, pop and country genres. This concert is also a free event.

The Fireman’s Parade is expected to begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, followed by the Car Show and Feature Parades.

Ross said this year’s expected attendees include Gov. Jim Justice, Sen. Joe Manchin, and West Virginia University football coach Neal Brown. Ross noted that former West Virginia University basketball coach Bob Huggins said he would try to attend.

“A lot of outstanding individuals come from all around the state,” Ross said. “Good entertainment, good food. It’s an all-around good time.”
