ELKINS -- A series of community fundraising cakewalks is set to kick off its fourth year with an event Friday evening.
Proceeds from Friday's cakewalk event – which will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Citizens Bank of West Virginia customer parking lot – will benefit the Randolph County CLIMB Organization, a youth mentoring program in Randolph County Schools.
Randolph County CLIMB is a 501(c)3 organization with a six-member board and approximately 35 mentors. During school visits, the mentors talk, play games, do experiments and crafts, and build a healthy relationship with students identified by their teachers, counselors, or administrators.
Many area businesses allow their employees to take extra time during lunch one day a week to participate in the program. Citizens Promoting Community encourages residents to help support Randolph County CLIMB.
The organization aims to promote healthy academic, social, emotional, and behavioral choices for students and has a mission to "Connect, Love, Inspire, Mentor, and Build hope for youth in Randolph County."
Friday's cakewalk will feature a Grand Prize Walk. In addition, 50/50 tickets will be for sale with the winning ticket being drawn at 7:30 p.m.
Although the CPC is not directly associated with Citizens Bank of West Virginia, they appreciate the continued partnership allowing the use of the parking lot for these events.
Citizens Promoting Community has been committed to raising money for various community organizations and has raised more than $10,000 since its inception.
Citizens Promoting Community is a group of like-minded community-oriented individuals working together to create family friendly and fun events for the Elkins community.
This year the group has a full summer schedule of events in store for the Elkins area.
Citizens Promoting Community began in 2021.
In 2022, the group was nominated and selected for the "Extra Mile Heroes" Award.
Citizens Promoting Community was formed to create and promote community within the City of Elkins.
