ELKINS -- After seeing the first two concerts of the season washed out by rain, organizers of the Live & Drive Concert Series are hoping the third time is the charm when Top Shelf visits the Rotary Amphitheater on June 13.
The summer concerts, which are held in conjunction with Thursday night cruise-ins at Elkins Town Square, are sponsored by Our Town Inc. and the Mountain State Street Machines.
The inaugural event of 2024 was scheduled for May 9 and was to feature Ryan Cain & The Ables. Blue Steel was scheduled to play the second event on May 23. Both fell victim to rainy weather.
"Hopefully, the rain holds off and we can have our first concert of 2024," Our Town volunteer Priscilla Gay told The Inter-Mountain. "We've been lucky in past years and haven't had to postpone back-to-back dates like we have had to do this year. It seems there's just been more rain than in previous years. One way or another, we've gotta get going next week. Hopefully the weather cooperates."
Gay said Our Town is still planning to reschedule the date with Ryan Cain & The Ables, and that a new date should be announced in the near future.
"We have sent Ryan Cain a couple dates that we have open and we are waiting for his reply," said Gay. "We just need to line up one of the days we've sent him and see if he is available. Once we get the OK from him we will announce the new date. We are hoping to have it later in June, but we will have to see."
Next week's performer, Top Shelf, will be making their first appearance at the Live & Drive Concert Series. Top Shelf has been entertaining fans in North Central West Virginia for years and are known for playing music from the 1960s through the 1980s.
"Top Shelf is one of our new bands this year," Gay noted. "We are excited to have them and we are hoping to have a big crowd for the show."
Cars will begin lining up along Railroad Avenue for next week's Cruise-In at 5 p.m. The concert, which is sponsored by Woodlands Development and Lending, is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
The remainder of this year's concert series includes: Matt Mullins and the Bringdowns (June 27), 249th Army Band (July 4), Motorcycle Drive-By (July 5), Rick K Road Show (July 6), Soda Pop Gypsies (July 11), The Family Foundation (July 25), Larry & Joe (Aug. 8), and Cold Chocolate (Aug. 22).
