ELKINS -- City officials are warning residents about devices known as credit card skimmers, and reported that one was found at the Elkins Kroger store Friday.
A City of Elkins press release said the skimmer "may have been active since Saturday, June 15. If you used self checkout during this time frame, check your statement for suspicious charges."
The release also noted that "similar devices have been found at other stores across the state this week."
The City of Elkins also offered tips to avoid being the victim of a credit card skimmer:
"To reduce your chance of being victimized by a skimmer, the FBI recommends using Tap to pay or digital payment methods such as Apple, Samsung, or Google Pay.
Anyone with information about the individuals in the security camera photo (taken at one of the other targeted stores) is asked to please contact the Elkins Police Department at 304-636-0678.
