ELKINS — Davis Health System officials confirmed to The Inter-Mountain Monday that a leadership change is being made at DHS.
President and CEO Vance Jackson is retiring, and former CEO Mark Doak will serve as interim president for DHS.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that Davis Health and Vandalia Health remain at the forefront of healthcare innovation and quality care, we have recently announced several leadership changes, including the retirement of President and CEO Vance Jackson,” a Monday press release from DHS states.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Vance for his 10 years of service to the organization and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
“With that, we are excited to welcome back Mark Doak, former CEO for Davis Health System, who will be returning as interim President. We are confident that his return will ensure a seamless transition and continue to drive our organization towards excellence,” the release states.
Vance took over as president and CEO of DHS in 2015.
He had previously served as CEO of Hancock County Health System in Iowa and had worked in health-care leadership for more than 30 years.
Doak previously served DHS for 14 years. He joined Davis Health System as chief operating officer in 1998 and in 2001 was named president and CEO. He announced his retirement in 2015.
He also served as chair of the American Hospital Association’s Section for Small/Rural Hospitals, and was a member of the AHA’s Coalition to Protect America’s Healthcare.
In February 2023, it was announced that Davis Health System would join CAMC Health System and Mon Health System as part of Vandalia Health.
The combined health system is the second largest not-for-profit integrated health system in West Virginia. It includes more than 180 outpatient care locations, more than 70 specialties, and employs nearly 13,000 staff and providers.
Davis Health System includes Davis Medical Center in Elkins, Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, and Webster Memorial Hospital in Webster Springs. The health system also includes a cancer center, specialty care clinics, long-term care, and other complimentary affiliates.
DHS employs nearly 1,000 healthcare professionals, according to the system’s LinkedIn page.
Mon Health System and Charleston Area Medical Center Health System merged in September of 2022 to form Vandalia Health.
