ELKINS - An Elkins man has been sentenced to no less than 75 years and no more than 300 years in prison on sexual assault and abuse charges.
Randolph County Circuit Judge David Wilmoth sentenced Clyde Henry Huffman, 69, of Chenoweth Creek Road, on Tuesday. Huffman was also ordered to register for life as a sex offender.
In February, Huffman was found guilty of five felony counts of sexual assault in the first degree and five felony counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian.
The trial, in Randolph County Circuit Court, ended with the jury finding Huffman guilty on all 10 counts.
Randolph County Prosecutor Michael Parker and Assistant Prosecutor Chrissy Harper tried the case.
Huffman was represented by James E. Hawkins and Brent Easton.
The case was investigated by Corporal Seth Kyle of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
According to the criminal complaint, officers spoke to a woman in March 2021 who said her juvenile daughter told her that day that Huffman had sexually assaulted her "approximately three-four years ago."
In April 2021, Kyle attended an interview with the victim hosted by the Randolph County CAC, according to the police report. During the interview she described Huffman sexually assaulting her. She said he sexually assaulted her on at least three different occasions.
She added that Huffman told her "not to tell anyone about the above incidents, and if she did he would kill her," according to the complaint.
In the criminal complaint, Kyle writes that his investigation revealed that Huffman is not related to the victim.
