BEMIS -- A Randolph County man was arrested after an alleged domestic incident involving a vehicle stuck on a tree stump.
Joshua Robert Wilson, 38, of Beverly, has been charged with domestic battery, a misdemeanor offense. He was being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, but posted a $500 cash-only bond, set by Magistrate Ben Shepler.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Deputy S.R. Davis, of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Davis was dispatched to the Bemis area on Sunday for a report of a physical domestic incident, involving a man, a woman and "multiple juveniles." Senior Deputy T. Knotts and Cpl. D. Stallings of the West Virginia State Police also responded.
At the scene, about a quarter mile east of Bemis, a disabled vehicle was "stuck on a tree stump," the complaint states. At a residence in Bemis, officers spoke to Wilson and a woman, both of whom "appeared to be intoxicated."
The complaint states that officers believe the woman was operating the vehicle when it became stuck on the stump, and Wilson, a passenger, demanded that he operate the vehicle to get it unstuck, which she refused. Wilson allegedly threw the vehicle keys and his wallet at the woman, and "physically struck her several times."
Several family members responded to the scene, and Wilson allegedly struck a male family member and pushed a female family member to the ground, according to the complaint. Wilson allegedly told the officers he and the woman were intoxicated and that they were "yelling and arguing, being combative, not super combative."
Officers reported that both Wilson and the woman "displayed several bruises; however, they appeared to be older bruises, and were reported to have been caused on a different day."
