One dead in fatal Buckhannon fire

BUCKHANNON - Authorities say a house fire took the life of an Upshur County resident today.

According to a release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office at 12:35 p.m., the Upshur County 911 Center was alerted to a structure fire in the 2800 block of Turkey Run Road in Buckhannon. Responding units found a single-family dwelling "heavily damaged" by flames. Deputies were requested to assist with the incident.

"One person was found deceased while crews were working to extinguish the fire," the release states.

Deputies secured the scene until the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived and assumed responsibility for the scene and the ongoing investigation, according to the release.

Agencies responding to the scene included the Buckhannon Fire Department, Upshur County EMS, and fire departments from Adrian and the Washington and Warren Districts.
