Tygart Valley Scottish Rite Masons’ biggest fundraiser underway

ELKINS -- Just two weeks remain to purchase tickets for the Tygart Valley Scottish Rite Masons' biggest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds going to support the organization's annual Christmas donations.
The winners of this year's prizes will be drawn during the Masons' annual Family Picnic at Elkins City Park on Aug. 11. The top prize this year are his and hers Smith & Wesson pistols. Second prize is a pair of glider rockers and a beverage table from Crazy Harrys, while third prize is two tickets for the Durbin Greenbrier Express.
For the past two months, members of the organization have been set up at different locations in the area. Masons were set up next to the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department on Friday and will be back there selling tickets again today.
"After setting up at Beverly Days this weekend, we probably won't be out anywhere else selling tickets before the picnic," TVSRM President Bob Arbogast told The Inter-Mountain. "We will still have tickets to get rid of, though, and people can get those from any member of our organization or by calling me at 304-624-3761."
The Tygart Valley Scottish Rite Masons' donations last year at Christmas went to the FOP Lodge No. 104 for its annual Christmas Party ($750); Philippi Police Department and the Philippi Detachment of West Virginia State Police for its Shop with a Cop Program ($500); West Virginia University Rite Care Foundation ($1,000); Charleston Childhood Language Center ($500); Tucker County Family Resource Center for its Children Nutrition and Backpack Program ($750); and the Grant County Sheriff's Association for its Shop with a Cop Program in Grant, Hardy and Pendleton counties ($1,547).
"This raffle is our biggest fundraiser of the year and all the money we raise goes to different organizations at Christmas time," Arbogast said. "We've been set up around town at different places since the first of June selling tickets. We are hoping to surpass what we did last year at Christmas, that's our goal."
