BUCKHANNON -- An Upshur County man was killed in an ATV wreck on Sand Run Road Saturday.
Upshur County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the site of the single-vehicle accident at approximately 11:57 p.m., according to a Sheriff's Office press statement.
"The investigation revealed that the driver was Joshua Matthew Shrift of Buckhannon," according to the statement. "Mr. Shrift was operating a 2019 Suzuki LT ATV on Sand Run Road, lost control, ran off the roadway to the right and crashed into a pond. Mr. Shrift was deceased as a result of the crash."
Shrift's body was taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner Office in Charleston, officials said.
Also responding at the scene were the West Virginia State Police, the Buckhannon Fire Department and Upshur County EMS.
The investigation is ongoing, officials said.
