WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sen. Joe Manchin, I-W.Va., announced that $6 million in federal funding will be coming to the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.
The funding, from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, will support building an expansion of the hospital, located in Buckeye.
Manchin, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced a total of $42,994,000 for 10 community projects across West Virginia. The funding will bolster general healthcare and mental health services across West Virginia.
These federal awards are Congressionally Directed Spending projects Manchin secured on behalf of West Virginia through the Fiscal Year 2024 funding bill.
"This more than $42 million investment will be used to strengthen and expand healthcare and mental health services across the Mountain State," Manchin said. "Every West Virginian deserves access to quality, affordable health services and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these projects for decades to come.
"As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for resources to support the health and well-being of our communities across the Mountain State."
The other West Virginia awards include:
Charleston Area Medical Center Inc. will receive $15 million to support creating a state-of-the-art neurosciences institute.
Applied Research Foundation of West Virginia, in Bluefield, will receive $7,415,000 to support the construction of a state-of-the-art healthcare training facility.
West Virginia University Hospitals, in Morgantown, will receive $6,428,000 to support constructing additional inpatient shelled areas.
Fairmont State University will receive $3,059,000 to support renovating the Nursing Simulation Center and Skills Lab.
Florence Crittenton Programs Inc, in Wheeling, will receive $3,042,000 to support expanding Crittenton's Center for Young Women and Children services for young girls, mothers, and babies.
Grant County will receive $700,000 to support constructing an EMS building.
Morgantown Community Resources Inc. will receive $500,000 to support expanding the Hazel's House of Hope Day Services Center.
Hospital Development, in Spencer, will receive $500,000 to support constructing an ambulance center.
Prestera Center For Mental Health Services, in Huntington, will receive $350,000 to be used to replace the facility's roof.
