BUCKHANNON -- An Upshur County man was arrested after allegedly setting the porch of his home on fire during a domestic dispute.
Randel McVay, 39, of Buckhannon, has been charged with first-degree arson. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $15,000 bond.
According to the criminal complaint, troopers with the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police assisted the Buckhannon Fire Department with a house fire on Farnsworth Avenue on Tuesday.
Officers said McVay and another resident of the home argued over who had started the fire, the complaint states. A witness said the two were in a verbal altercation, so the witness and the woman left on foot. McVay then allegedly came running up behind them "yelling she had set the house on fire."
In talking to officers, McVay allegedly gave differing accounts of how the fire began, at one point saying someone else started it, and then saying the woman had lit the fire, according to the complaint.
