Drug drop box now at Health Department
ELKINS — Elkins city officials said that residents can still drop off unwanted pharmaceutical drugs despite City Hall being closed until further notice.
The city’s communication specialist, Jeremy Deighan, confirmed to The Inter-Mountain that any city residents who wish to get rid of unwanted drugs and medication can still dispose of them at a drop box at the Randolph Elkins Health Department at Suite 101 in the Wees Annex on 32 Randolph Ave.
The drop box was originally in City Hall; however, due to City Hall’s continued closure, the box has been moved to the Health Department.
Elkins City Hall is currently undergoing renovation work after it faced a sewage overflow incident on Aug. 31, which flooded the building’s basement and first floor, including the Elkins City Police Department.
“They decided to relocate the box to the Health Department since that facility is more secure and it can be monitored appropriately,” Deighan told The Inter-Mountain Wednesday.
Deighan said drugs and medication can also be dropped off to the Elkins Police Department’s current location at the temporary modular buildings behind City Hall. Police Chief Travis Bennett said that “anyone who shows up will be directed to the right place” for disposal, Deighan said.
City Hall asked that if residents need to report any non-emergency information, they please contact the Elkins Police Department at 304-636-0678, or email elkinspolicetips@cityofelkinswv.com. For emergencies, please call 911.
As City Hall remains closed, several of the public facing departments have moved to new locations.
City officials said the Treasurer’s Office and Utility Departments are continuing normal operations at their new location located at 10 11th St., Suite 3. This is the new West Virginia Wood Technology Center office space, which also houses the Randolph County Development Authority. It is asked that customers visit between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m and that any mail should still be addressed to 401 Davis Ave., Elkins, West Virginia, 26241. The Treasurer’s Office can be reached at 304-636-1414, ext. 1722.
The Municipal Court has taken up residence in one of the temporary modular buildings behind City Hall. The court operates between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The Municipal Court can be reached at 304-636-1414, ext. 1529.
