Las Trancas now offering Mexican cuisine in Elkins

ELKINS — With the Las Trancas Mexican Restaurant now officially open in Elkins, local Mexican cuisine lovers can enjoy a new option for their favorite food.

Las Trancas, located on Randolph Avenue across from the James F. Cain Courthouse Annex, was originally scheduled to open its doors in March. Unforeseen circumstances delayed those plans until the restaurant was finally able to hold its grand opening a week ago.

“We are really happy to finally be open,” Las Trancas manager Uriel Perez told The Inter-Mountain. “After we had some delays with our original plan, we made it a goal to open before the Forest Festival, and we are very excited that we were able to do that.”

Las Trancas, which also has locations in Buckhannon and Clarksburg, is open seven days a week. The restaurant’s hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“Everything is set up the way we wanted and I think it looks better than what we planned,” Perez said. “I don’t think a lot of people know we are open yet, so we’ve been tryin to get the word out on social media so people know about it. But we were really busy last weekend and this past Wednesday.”

Perez said one of Las Trancas’ top priorities at all of its locations is to get the food out to diners as quickly as possible.

“Las Trancas’ goal is always to bring customers’ out food quickly,” said Perez. “Especially at lunchtime, when people are working and need to get back to their offices. We want to be quick so they can enjoy their meal.”

Perez said customers can enjoy all of the traditional Mexican food favorites at Las Trancas, plus some additional dishes they may not find at other locations.

“We have everyone’s favorite menu items plus some additional new dishes,” Perez said. “When we came to Elkins we wanted to be able to show everyone some different types of food. We are not trying to compete with the other restaurants, we just want to offer customers in Elkins a different option when it comes to Mexican cuisine.”

Las Trancas is located in the former Vintage Restaurant building, which has been remodeled inside and offers ample seating, with both booths and tables for customers to enjoy. There is also a bar area with several televisions.

“We have a large bar and bar area with televisions where people can come and enjoy a football game or other sporting events while they are eating or enjoying a cocktail,” Perez said. “Because we were in a hurry to open so quickly, we have the basic cocktails at the bar right now. But we will have a much larger cocktail menu at the bar soon, with many different options for customers.”
