Lady Colts advance to Class AA championship

Will face Oak Glen Thursday in rematch of last year's title game

CHARLESTON -- Philip Barbour advanced to the Class AA state championship game with straight-set wins in the semifinals and quarterfinals Tuesday at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.

The second-seeded Lady Colts (43-13-1) will battle top-seed Oak Glen in a rematch of last year's title game at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The Lady Colts defeated No. 6 Charleston Catholic (25-14, 25-19, 25-14) in Tuesday night's semifinals. They started the day with a (25-21, 25-14, 25-11) win over No. 7 Wyoming East in the quarterfinals.

In the the win over Wyoming East, senior MacKenna Halfin recorded her 2,000th career kill, finishing with 22 to go along with five total blocks and 13 digs.

Sophomore Izzy Knotts contributed nine kills, senior Avery McDaniel six kills and sophomore Finley Carpenter four kills.

McDaniel led in ace serves with five and added 11 assists, while Carpenter tallied a team-high 20 assists.

The Lady Golden Bears defeated Buffalo in the semifinals and South Harrison in the quarterfinals.
