Lady Tigers fall to Bridgeport in quarterfinal play

CHARLESTON -- Elkins High School's historic season came to a conclusion Wednesday morning at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.

Making their first-ever appearance in the state volleyball tournament, the eighth-seeded Lady Tigers dropped a 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-9) to top-seed Bridgeport in quarterfinal play.

Despite falling in the first two sets, Elkins continued to battle in the third set, taking the lead advantage.

But with the set tied at 6-6, the Lady Indians took the lead for good to move to this evening’s semifinals.

The Lady Tigers of first-year coach Rich O'Neill have a bright future as the entire team returns intact next season.

Members of the squad that competed in Charleston included Leah Ours, Lily Anderson, Aubrey Currence, Hannah Currence, Gabby Mahanes, Madyson Shreve, Samantha White, Maddy Zirkle, Maura O'Neill, Jasmin Workman, Marissa Brenwalt and Jayda Owens.
