Local officials to discuss ‘State of the Corridor’

By Brad Johnson 2 min read

ELKINS -- Local leaders from Randolph, Upshur and Lewis counties will gather for the second-ever "State of the Corridor" event later this month.

The April 30 event, to take place at 11:30 a.m. at Magnolia Hall at Scott Hill in Elkins, is described as a Tri-County Economic Development Update presented by the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce, and Lewis County Chamber of Commerce.

The event is designed to be an insightful gathering of regional leaders, where decision-makers from across Randolph, Upshur, and Lewis Counties will come together to discuss the future of economic development in our region.

This event will feature the county seat mayors, county commission presidents, and development authority directors from all three counties, offering a collaborative platform to explore opportunities for growth, investment, and innovation.

From Randolph County, officials speaking will include state Senator Robbie Morris, R-District 11; Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco; and Randolph County Commission President David Kesling.

Upshur County officials scheduled to take part include Buckhannon Mayor Robbie Skinner; Upshur County Commissioner Sam Nolte; and Brandon Tenney of the Upshur County Development Authority.

Officials from Lewis County planning to speak during the event include Weston Mayor Kim Harrison-Edwards; Lewis County Commissioner Agnes Queen; and Ray Smith of the Lewis County Development Authority.

"This idea was actually created from an event called State of the Valley, which is held down in the Kanawha Valley," Morris told The Inter-Mountain prior to the first "State of the Corridor" event in 2024. "We thought our economies along Corridor H work really well together, so Upshur County approached us about having this event.

"We thought it was a great idea to provide the public with an update on how things are going within our major cities and counties, and how we are working together and what we are working on."

The event will be hosted at Magnolia Hall at the historic Scott Hill Mansion. The summit will provide a setting for meaningful discussions on regional progress and strategic initiatives, officials said. Guests will also enjoy a prepared lunch by Oxley House at the Tygart Hotel, adding a taste of local excellence to the experience.

The Event Sponsor is Citizens Bank of West Virginia. The Co-Sponsors are Vandalia Health, WVU Medicine, & Community Care of West Virginia.
