Post 29 to celebrate 106th birthday

ELKINS — The H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion will celebrate its 106th birthday with its annual dinner celebration this weekend.
The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Post 29. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., with guest speaker Donald Lambert of Elkins, the Grand Chef de Gare of the 40 & 8, Grande Voiture of West Virginia.
Tickets are available at the Post Home and the Clubroom and should be purchased in advance, as none will be sold at the door, officials said.
The menu will include ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, roll, dessert and a beverage. No alcohol will be allowed in the event.
Guest speaker Lambert was born and raised in Elkins. After graduating from Elkins High School in 2014, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. For the past 11 years, has been stationed at the 130th Airlift Wing Force Support Squadron in Charleston, where he holds the rank of Technical Sergeant.
In his civilian job, Lambert works for the Supportive Services for Veterans Families program with Mountain CAP in Buckhannon, working with homeless and at-risk of being homeless veterans and their families in Upshur, Lewis, Gilmer, Braxton and Harrison counties.
He resides in Valley Bend with his wife and son, and has been a member of American Legion Post 29 for 11 years. Lambert has been a Past Post Commander, Past District Commander, Department Membership Vice Chairman, Assistant Sergeant at Arms, and is the Department Chairman of the Americanism Committee.
He is a Paid Up for Life member in the 40 & 8 in Elkins, where he has been Chef de Gare and Correspondent, and a member of AMVETS in Inwood, and the Disabled American Veterans in Marlinton, where he is Senior Vice Commander. He is also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, with his son and brother.
