BOE approves dozens of RIFs, votes down nearly 30

ELKINS – After an executive session that lasted more than an hour, the Randolph County Board of Education voted Tuesday evening on all the RIF termination and transfer recommendations made by the superintendent of schools, approving dozens but also voting down nearly 30.
The BOE voted to approve, as a block, all of Superintendent Dr. Shawn Dilly’s recommendations to transfer service personnel, and to terminate service personnel. Both votes passed 5-0.
When voting turned to the list of professional employees to be transferred, the Board asked to vote on each person’s recommendation individually.
The BOE voted to accept seven of the professional transfer recommendations, but voted down 16 of the recommendations.
Three names were pulled from the list and not voted on, because, Dilly said, officials found out on Tuesday that funding “had been returned” for those positions.
The BOE again asked that the next block to be voted on, termination recommendations of professionals, be voted on individually.
Board members approved 27 of the termination recommendations, and voted down 13 of the recommendations.
A total of two names were pulled from the list, although officials did not give a reason.
Last month, the BOE tabled voting on the RIF recommendations until Tuesday, hoping more information would be available about possible federal or state funding.
The Inter-Mountain will post a full article about Tuesday’s meeting and RIF votes on Wednesday.
