UPSHUR COUNTY — A man died in a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. Rt. 33 in Upshur County Monday afternoon, police said.
According to a Tuesday press release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 1:23 p.m. Monday, a 2012 Dodge 2500 pickup truck was being driven by Daniel Lynn Carson, 50, of Buckhannon, west on the roadway before “entering the median, crossing over into the eastbound lane, striking the guardrail, and rolling over the embarkment, coming to a rest in a stream.”
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found that Carson “was deceased as a result of the crash,” the release states. Officers also saw the truck, owned by United Contracting Inc. of Buckhannon, had sustained “heavy damage,” the release states.
U.S. Rt. 33 was “shut down for an extended period of time, so the vehicle could be recovered,” according to the release.
Troopers from both the Buckhannon and Elkins detachments of the West Virginia State Police assisted Upshur County deputies with the crash investigation, which is ongoing, police said.
