Randolph man admits to possession with intent to distribute charge
ELKINS — A Randolph County man has admitted to possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, federal officials said.
Gary Duane Cool, 41, of Monterville, is facing at least 10 years and up to life in federal prison after he fled on foot after crashing his car in Valley Head.
A witness at the scene told police that Cool dropped items off in a nearby yard, which was recovered and consisted of a backpack with nearly 50 grams of methamphetamine and a firearm, officials said.
A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner is prosecuting on behalf of the government.
The incident was investigated by the Mountain Region Drug Task Force. U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided.
