ELKINS -- Tygarts Valley High School celebrated its 102nd commencement ceremony Thursday night as 52 seniors receive their diplomas in the school's gymnasium.
The Tygarts Valley High School Band kicked off the ceremony and Principal Steve Wamsley welcomed those attending the event, which was moved from Bulldog Field to indoors because of inclement weather.
Natalie Morgan gave the Invocation and she was followed by Nina Sharp-Hebb, who served as the alumni guest speaker.
Sharp-Hebb, a 1998 graduate at TVHS, has performed music throughout the eastern part of the United States since receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Davis & Elkins College in 2012.
Sharp-Hebb taught for three years in the Randolph County School system before taking the position as producer and headlining performer at the Gandy Dancer Theater. She also owns and operates the Center Stage Dance Studio in Dale.
Co-Salutatorian Avery Row-Sponaugle addressed the graduates, saying, "A lot of people might say that a small town limits your opportunities, but we have proven that it builds character, resilience, and determination. Growing up here has taught us that success isn't about where you start, but it's about how far you are willing to go. And even though our school is small, our dreams don't have to be."
Wamsley introduced the Class of 2025 Salutatorians, Avery Row-Sponaugle, Sydney Weiford and Marcus Rader, and announced the 2025 Valedictorian, Summer Lewis-Smith. Emily Tallman gave the Benediction.
