COALTON -- All incumbent candidates that ran in Coalton's municipal election were re-elected during this week's municipal election, Coalton Mayor Jim Rossi said.
Voting took place Tuesday at St. Patrick's Parish Hall on 200 Church St. in Coalton. Rossi, who was re-elected as mayor, said the turnout for the election was "good," with 25 voters casting ballots.
Re-elected to Coalton's Town Council were Jim Ross, Mike Wilson, Donna Long, Pat Rossi and Brian Scheaser. All candidates ran unopposed.
"In this day and age, it's tough," Rossi told The Inter-Mountain. "…There's some of the ballots (in other municipal elections that) were not filled. There's vacant seats. It's very difficult today with all the new regulations and limited budgets. It is just tough to operate."
The position of Coalton Town Recorder will be filled through a hiring process, Rossi said.
Rossi said he and the council members plan to "continue to move forward" as new businesses and people move into the community. Rossi said student enrollment at Coalton Elementary has also increased.
"That's what Council is going to work towards, improving the quality of life for Coalton," Rossi said.
One item that the Town of Coalton continues to focus on, Rossi said, is the near completion of the town's more than $6 million new water system.
"It's done, basically," Rossi said. "The new water facility has started up and we were able to install new lines, additional fire hydrants and a new water treatment facility and drill the new well. So we're pretty healthy in that way... We're moving forward."
