ELKINS — Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center now has three certified wound nurses at the facility.
Michelle Ross, LPN, and Kayla Isenhart, LPN, both received their state certifications in Wound Care and Ostomy Management in May. They now join Rebecca Hitt Abrogast, Family Nurse Practitioner, who has her national certification in Wound Care and Ostomy Management.
Arbogast has been nationally certified since 2019.
“This is just part of our mission to make sure we can provide the very best care possible to all of our residents,” said Tara Shaver, administrator at ERCC.
A wound care nurse is one who specializes in both the treatment of both acute and chronic wounds. These could include diabetic ulcers and other wounds caused by medical conditions.
“We aim to provide the full gamut of care for everyone here at the facility, and having three certified wound care nurses is a great way to do it,” Shaver added.
All three nurses made their way up through the ranks of the profession through the years.
Arbogast began as a certified nursing assistant in 1993. Ross began her nursing career at ERCC as a nursing assistant in 2018 and Isenhart started out as a licensed practical nurse in 2020.
“We’re really proud of the hard work they all have put into getting these certifications,” Shaver said.
