Police: Man, 71, drowned in river Sunday

BUCKHANNON - A 71-year-old man was found dead after reportedly falling into a river on Sunday, Upshur County Sheriff's Office announced Monday.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported drowning around 700 Boy Scout Camp Road on June 22, according to a statement released by Upshur County Sheriff J.M. Coffman at about 10:30 a.m. Monday.

During the investigation, deputies were informed that Harold Feagans, 71, of St. Albans "had gone to the riverbank, slipped and fallen into the river," the statement reads. Feagans was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Coffman wrote that Feagans' cause of death was still under investigation.
