BUCKHANNON - An Upshur County man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly driving with a revoked license, fleeing from police and possessing around 3.6 grams of methamphetamine.
Travis Clyde Medina, 41, is charged with one count of driving with a license revoked for DUI-third offense, a felony, as well as one count of fleeing from an officer on foot and possession of methamphetamine, both misdemeanors.
He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond for the felony and a $5,000 cash-only bond for the misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, filed by Deputy R.T. Lamb with the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, on June 22, Lamb and Lt. M.W. Powers were both attempting to apprehend Medina, who was wanted out of Harrison County for driving with a revoked license and fleeing from police with "reckless indifference" on June 1.
While in the area of Yokum Road and River Church Road, the two officers observed a side-by-side, suspected to be driven by Medina, enter the campgrounds of Camp Morning Wood, the complaint states. Lamb writes in the complaint that it was anticipated that Medina would go to the campgrounds, as an ATV trailer and a vehicle registered to Medina were located there.
Lamb and Powers then observed the side-by-side park outside of the residence of a known acquaintance to Medina, the complaint states. Powers then parked a marked Upshur County patrol cruiser outside of the same residence.
According to the complaint, Medina exited the side-by-side and "began to flee on foot away from Lt. Powers." Lamb, who had entered the campground on foot from the edge of the woods next to the residence, observed Medina fleeing before both Lamb and Powers apprehended Medina and placed him under arrest.
The officers found one orange and white pill bottle on Medina, the complaint states. Inside the bottle was a "white, crystal-like … powdery substance consistent with methamphetamine" that weighed approximately 3.6 grams.
According to the Upshur County Sheriff's Office's social media page, deputies also recovered a stolen UTV out of Barbour County during Medina's apprehension. The Sheriff's Office added that the investigation is "ongoing with additional charges pending."
According to the complaint, an investigation uncovered that Medina does not currently possess a valid driver's license and was recently charged in Harrison County with one count of driving with a license revoked for DUI, and one count of fleeing from law enforcement officers in a vehicle while showing a reckless indifference to safety of others, both felonies.
He is also being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond for the Harrison County charges.
Medina also has prior convictions for driving with a revoked license for DUI in Monongalia County in 2016, in Marion County in 2015 and in Tucker County in 2010, the complaint states.
