MILL CREEK – A man was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly smoking fentanyl on Tygarts Valley High School property.

Avery Nuell Hash III, 44, was charged with possession of fentanyl and loitering on school property. He is currently being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $1,000 cash bond.

According to a press statement released by Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon, on Friday, Senior Deputy T.J. Knotts received a call from Tygarts Valley High School saying there was a “suspicious male” on school property that officials “wanted removed.” The man was described as wearing a white cut-off t-shirt with green pants and a hat.

Knotts arrived at the school at about 12:12 p.m. and “observed a male matching the description slumped over in the dugout with a piece of burn aluminum foil in his lap,” the statement reads. The man identified himself as Hash, and when Knotts asked him what was in the foil, he reportedly said, “I was smoking Fetty, yeah.”

Knotts then conducted a probable cause search of Hash, locating “an open Camel Snus can in his front left pants pocket, which contained an additional piece of aluminum foil with a white and gray substance consistent with ‘Fetty’ (fentanyl and/or heroin),” according to the statement.

Knotts then placed Hash into hand restraints, and asked him, “What is that, Fetty?” Hash replied “Supposed to be,” the statement reads.
