Chuma

BUCKHANNON — A Georgia man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attempting to strike a man with his vehicle at Walmart.

Rayne Prince Marion Chuma, 22, of Dallas, Georgia, is charged with attempted murder, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond.

According to the criminal complaint, filed by Lt. Douglas N. Loudin with the Buckhannon Police Department, on July 2, Chuma allegedly “knowingly and unlawfully” attempted to commit murder by driving his vehicle “rapidly” at the alleged victim “in an attempt to strike him” in the Walmart parking lot in Buckhannon.

The alleged victim attempted to jump “over the car” to avoid being hit, the complaint states. Loudin writes that the alleged victim had marks on his knees from where he struck the pavement.

Chuma also allegedly hit an outer wall at Walmart with his vehicle, “causing damage” to the building, the complaint states. After leaving the scene, Chuma was found by police at his Upshur County residence.

A preliminary hearing for Chuma has been set for June 9 at Upshur County Magistrate Court.

In April, Chuma was also charged in Upshur County with two counts of unlawful assault and two counts of wanton endangerment involving destructive devices, explosive materials or incendiary devices. He was charged after allegedly spraying two men with gasoline at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
