BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly breaking into a convenience store to steal an energy drink and a pack of cigarettes.
Tiffany Phillips, 39, is charged with breaking and entering, a felony. She is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $15,000 surety/cash bond.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Patrolman Wade Loudin with the Buckhannon City Police Department, on July 17, Loudin was dispatched to the Par Mar store on Clarksburg Road in Buckhannon in reference to an alarm.
Upon arriving on the scene, Loudin observed Phillips “drinking a Monster Energy drink and smoking a cigarette,” as well as the front door to the store being “slightly ajar,” the complaint states. After telling Phillips to remain in front of his patrol vehicle, Loudin entered the store, only to find it empty.
Loudin asked Phillips if she had taken the energy drink in her possession from the store, to which Phillips allegedly responded, “the guy told me I was good,” the complaint states. Phillips was then detained.
In reviewing the security footage with the store manager, Loudin observed footage of Phillips “pulling the front doors open and entering the store,” the complaint states.
The footage also allegedly showed Phillips go into the rear of the store and take a Monster Energy drink from the cooler before taking a pack of Sonoma cigarettes from behind the counter and a lighter from the front of the counter, according to the complaint. Phillips is then reportedly shown on the footage leaving the store.
Phillips also received a misdemeanor citation for one count of shoplifting.
A preliminary hearing for Phillips has been scheduled for July 28 in Upshur County Magistrate Court.
