Back-to-School Bash to offer free school supplies, haircuts

ELKINS — The Refinery Church is teaming up with several local businesses for the church’s first annual Back-to-School Bash on Sunday, featuring free haircuts, a school supplies give-away and a clothing exchange.

The Back-to-School Bash will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at 110 3rd Street in Elkins, inside the Seneca Mall, which is the current location of the Refinery Church.

The first day of classes for all Randolph County Schools K-12 students is Monday. Randolph County Schools Pre-K students will begin classes on Aug. 27.

During Sunday’s event, free haircuts will be offered to kids by multiple local salons, including Hair Graphics, Style & Grace and Top Knot Hair.

“They’re going to come in, do free haircuts for folks that are in need of a fresh haircut for going back to school,” Refinery Church Pastor Roy Schneider told The Inter-Mountain. “I know when I was a kid, that was always a cool thing. Getting a haircut and getting ready to get back to school.”

The Refinery Church has also teamed with Seven Wellness to give away school necessities, such as backpacks and school supplies, to kids during the event.

Schneider explained that the church will also be doing something “unique” with the event by having a kid’s clothing exchange, which will be similar to thrift shopping. The exchange will feature clothing donated for kids from toddler age to grade 12.

“Our ladies have gotten a bunch of donations of clothes that they’re going to be handling, and that piece will be free as well,” Schneider said. “We know that, for some folks, back-to-school clothing is an issue. Kids are growing and they don’t have the resources. So, we want to do our best to be able to provide those opportunities for those folks.”
