PARSONS — As Tucker Community Foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser, Run For It, approaches, the foundation has announced that its annual grant cycle has been moved this year.
This year the Tucker Community Foundation hopes to award more than $140,000 in grants.
Grant applications are currently being accepted, and the deadline to have grant applications turned in to the Foundation is Friday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m.
The Tucker Community Foundation will be awarding grant funding to organizations, volunteer groups and “people working to make a positive change in their communities,” according to a Foundation press release.
To be considered, groups must be working within the foundation’s nine county service area, in Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Preston, Pocahontas, Randolph, Tucker and Upshur counties in West Virginia, as well as Garrett County, Maryland.
“Grant season at the foundation is always a time of great excitement,” said Michael Moore, the Tucker Community Foundation’s chief financial officer. “Each year we are reminded of the efforts of hard-working folks who work to make our communities better. As a community foundation, our mission is, ‘Creating opportunities for the individuals and communities we serve.

“Paper copies are available at the Foundation’s office at 104 Education Lane, Room 211, in Parsons. If you have any questions or need a paper copy mailed to you, please feel free to call our office Monday thru Friday between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 304-478-2930.”
Grant applications must be turned into the Tucker Community Foundation’s office by Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. They can also be mailed, to PO Box 491, Parsons WV 26287, with a postmark date of Sept. 19. Grants can be electronically submitted to: grants@tuckerfoundationwv.org.
Grant applications can cover a wide range of charitable service areas, including the arts, education, health and safety, emergency services, community development, parks, libraries, historic preservation and more.
In years past, grants have helped a county school system take their eighth-grade classes on a ski trip, or a city to purchase new equipment for their park, or for a volunteer fire department to get equipment for emergency rope rescues, the press release states.
“The foundation’s grant funding is due to the generosity of donors who have established and contributed to the more than 150 endowed funds and unrestricted funds established through the foundation,” according to the release. “While some funds are targeted to support specific charitable areas, others are written to have a much wider reach. All grant awards are based on a competitive application process.”
