‘Haunted Holler’ set for Saturday

ELKINS — More than 30 vendors, groups and organizations are expected to take part in the first Haunted Holler Fest this Saturday, a new spooky event for downtown Elkins.

The Haunted Holler Fest will take place on Saturday on Third Street and in the Seneca Mall Atrium from noon to 5 p.m. Third Street will be blocked off from TipTop to the Elkins Sewing Center during the event. The alley next to Third Street Tattoo, and Mary’s Alley next to the Seneca Mall, will also be blocked off.

The block party-style event is a collaboration between The Rovira Collective, Third Street Tattoo, Clementine’s Closet and the Oxley House, with several other local businesses joining in on the festivities.

“It was really Nicole’s (with The Rovira Collective) idea to begin with,” Emily Standridge, co-owner of Third Street Tattoo, told The Inter-Mountain. “It just got bigger due to the help of so many different people being involved.”

For Third Street Tattoo, Saturday’s festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with flash tattoos, permanent jewelry and piercings, with two guest artists joining the studio for the event. The studio will be offering these services until around 8 p.m.

“In front of our shop there will be Ging with Gingrollsandpancit,” Standridge said. The event will also feature two other food trucks, with food vendors throughout the area.

The Haunted Holler Fest will kick off at noon with 38 vendors and tables scattered throughout Third Street and in the Seneca Mall Atrium.

Vendors include Keep On Creepin’ On, Wilted Rose, Queen of Arts, Cakes and Crumbs, Wit and Purl, Little Raven Gems, One Rising, Chapter 44, Sip and Dip, Appalachian Mama, Timothy G. Huguenin, Charm Revival, Mitzy Metal, Hill and Holler Herbal Company, Rustic Root, The Doods, Spooky Seams, The Rovira Collective, Yesterday’s Garden, Pottery by Macie, Em’s Gems and More, Maya Mushrooms, Crafted Freedom, Double Knee Vintage, Recovered Insight, Kim’s Creations, Golden Deer Tarot, Moe Moe’s Munchables, Gypsy Reece, Kylie Jones Sculptures and Art, The Greeneggs Foundation, E by Emily Prentice and A’La Boards Plates and Platters.

“What is Haunted Holler Fest?” Standridge said. “It’s a celebration of all things Appalachian folklore, cryptids, legends, mysteries and everything in between.”

Also setting up tables at the event will be the West Virginia Railroad Museum, the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.

On Saturday, the Elkins Sewing Center will also be getting in on the fun by offering event-goers the chance to make their own “crafty cryptid.” TipTop will be offering a special “Cryptid’s Creations.” The special menu features drinks such as Haunted Holler Latte, Blood-Tea Mary, Chupa-Cold-Brew, Flatwoods Matcha and Mothman Mocha.

“Mothman” is also set to make an appearance during the Festival, offering photo opportunities for event-goers.

Later in the evening, the Oxley House on Davis Avenue will be hosting a Cryptids & Cocktails afterparty from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Tickets for the afterparty are limited.

Standridge said she would love to have the Haunted Holler Fest become an annual event, saying it’s “pretty much guaranteed” that the event will return next year.

Starting at $3.92/week.
