1,900 Randolph homes lost power Thursday
RANDOLPH COUNTY — An early morning power outage left more than 1,900 homes temporarily without electricity and caused two Randolph County schools to be on remote learning Thursday, officials said.
Tygarts Valley Middle/High School and George Ward Elementary School were both originally scheduled to operate on a two-hour delay, but officials later announced on social media that both of the schools would switch to being on remote learning Thursday. Alert messages were sent out, and staff information was sent by alerts from the school system.
Will Boyle, a spokesperson for MonPower, told The Inter-Mountain that the outage began around 4 a.m. Thursday, and noted that service was restored shortly after 10 a.m.
“The outage was due to a broken crossarm and affected 1,900 customers,” Boyle said in an email to The Inter-Mountain.
A representative of the Randolph County Office of Emergency Management told The Inter-Mountain that all power was restored in the county by 11 a.m.
An email sent to a Randolph County electric customer by FindEnergy.com at 4:37 a.m. Thursday morning stated that, at that time, data showed that “1,349 out of 16,661 tracked meters (8.10%) are without power in Randolph County.”
