Halloween events set across area

ELKINS — Events featuring ghouls, ghosts and other scary creatures will begin appearing in the local area this week and continue through Nov. 1.

A host of activities are planned this week in Elkins, beginning on Thursday with the annual Boo Mile. During the event, participants will wear blow-up costumes and make their way up Davis Avenue as part of a spooky, family-friendly parade.

Registration for the Boo Mile will be at 6:30 p.m. at 1201 CrossFit. Participants can walk, run or dance their way to the finish line at Beander’s Restaurant and Tavern. The event is open for all ages. Email desirewatson@gmail.com for more information or to pre-register.

Two events are planned for Saturday in Elkins, beginning with a trunk-or-treat at the Phil Gainer Community Center from 2-4 p.m. The trunk-or-treat is presented in partnership with several local churches and faith-based organizations in the area.

Beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Fancy Paws will host its annual Howl-O-Ween celebration at the store’s location on Third Street. The event will feature a costume contest, activities, games and a pet parade.

Parsons will be hosting city trick-or-treating on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Parsons will also offer an event billed as “Witch Way to the Treats” beginning at 5 p.m. at Mill Race Park. 

Beginning next week on Tuesday, Oct, 28, the Downtown Elkins Spooktacular Trick-or-Treat will be offered from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Businesses along Davis Avenue will be handing out treats during the event.

More than 50 local businesses in Belington will host a trick-or-treat event at the Barbour County Fairgrounds the same evening. A Halloween after-party will also be offered at the VFW Park at 7:30 p.m.

Trick-or-treating for Belington on Halloween night Oct. 31 will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Trick-or-treating on Halloween night in Buckhannon will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and in Elkins from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Philippi’s Halloween trick-or-treating will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31.

A free, family-themed Kids Spooktacular Evening will be offered at Scott Hill Mansion in Elkins on Halloween night from 5-9 p.m. The kids event will feature treats and a host of activities for families including haunted rooms, a visit from a headless horseman, trick-or-treating, hay rides, a bonfire, and more on Friday, Oct. 31.

On the evening after Halloween, there will be an adult Spooktacular event at Magnolia Hall on Scott Hill. There will be a cost for tickets, and those attending the event will be treated to appetizers and drinks. The event will feature an outdoor bonfire and candlelight tour of the mansion.

Music will be provided by Michael Bonnett and Rivers Edge. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
