State Police ask for help in identifying traffic fatality victim
ELKINS — Police are asking for help in identifying the body of a woman involved in a fatal wreck in the Mill Creek area Saturday morning.
The West Virginia State Police’s Elkins Detachment is requesting assistance, saying in a press release that at approximately 2 a.m., a motorist traveling along Back Road in the Mill Creek area struck an object lying in the roadway, initially believed to be a deer.
The driver stopped “a short distance from the scene” and contacted Randolph County 911 to report the incident, the release states.
“Upon arrival, first responders determined that the object was not a deer, but an adult female who was deceased,” according to the release. “Despite extensive efforts by investigating officers, no form of identification has been located for the victim.”
The victim’s body was transported to the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy and positive identification.
