Woman killed in Huttonsville wreck

HUTTONSVILLE – A Randolph County woman was pronounced dead after a fatal accident in Huttonsville Wednesday night, police said.

The West Virginia State Police released a statement Thursday morning regarding a fatal accident that led to the death of Mary Rexrode, 55, of Brandywine, that occurred on U.S. Route 219 Wednesday night.

On Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m., troopers from the Elkins Detachment of the WVSP responded to US Route 219 in Huttonsville after receiving reports of a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash, the statement reads.

“Upon investigation, it was determined that a sedan operated by Rexrode had been traveling northbound when it ran off the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned before coming to rest in the opposing lane of traffic,” the State Police reported. Rexrode was pronounced dead on the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
