ELKINS — A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house was held for a new facility that will provide recovery services for women in the Elkins area.
Ally’s Hope opened its doors to the public at its Robert E. Lee Avenue location last week, just four months after director Shelby Burgess-Wilson presented a plan to the Randolph County Commission, which provided funding for the Sober Living Home.
In late June, the Commission approved the allocation of $250,000 in Opioid Settlement money to the new non-profit facility. The RCC provided $217,000 toward the purchase of the house and the remainder of the $250,000 was used to revamp the facility and fund start-up costs.
“We are really happy to see her (Burgess-Wilson) vision come into reality,” Randolph County Commission President David Kesling told The Inter-Mountain.
“The money we received from the Opioid Settlement was intended for something like this and it’s nice to be able to see people benefit from it. She (Burgess-Watson) has created a really nice facility that looks like a brand new home on the inside.”
Burgess-Wilson said the faith-based sober living facility will officially start receiving residents at the house in December.
“We can accommodate up to 10 ladies and the program is three months up to 18 months,” Burgess said. “We will officially open up the first week in December and the ladies will work while they are here and receive life-skills training and therapy. They will learn how to manage their sobriety and will feel like they are home when they are here — it’s a really beautiful home.”
